Creative Wedding Gift

Congratulations to Kate and Tom who were married in May 2016. With a relaxed wedding at a very unusual venue, they wanted to spend their wedding gifts on something extra special that would mean a lot to them both and would remind them of their wedding for years to come. We caught up with them to find out more:

Kate & Tom were married on 7 May at the stunning Blencowe Hall in Greystoke; a beautiful medieval house with some extremely unusual features.
The hall just had everything this lovely couple were after for an intimate wedding, they didn’t need to look at any other venues! Kate went on to explain “I think we would describe our wedding as understated chic.  We wanted everything to be relaxed and fun.  We had the ceremony in front of the hall (thankfully weather was on our side!), and then tipi’s in the back field for the reception.  It was perfect.”

“We knew we wanted to put our wedding gift collection towards something special, and something tactile and that would stand the test of time.  The idea for commissioning a painting really came about when we saw Sarah’s work in a copy of Cumbria Life the week after we got married.  We loved the style and thought it was perfect for what we were after, a local Cumbrian artist with a modern approach to painting, a unique technique and the use of color – not something we had really seen before. “

With strong connections to Cumbria, Kate & Tom found it was an easy decision to choose a Herdwick sheep as the subject for their special commission. They are both fans of Herdy, and knew it would make a nice reminder of their Cumbrian wedding when they are at home in Malaysia.

We asked them what they liked most about the commission; “I suppose the best thing is that it was made just for us and that we got to know Sarah a little throughout the process.  It’s not ‘just another painting’ it's part of our wedding story, and something we can enjoy for years to come. If anyone is wondering what to do with their wedding gift money, I would highly recommend you commission a painting together, it is a beautiful way to create a special piece and lasting memories for your home."

After the painting was finished, Kate & Tom made thank you cards featuring a picture of their Herdwick, to send to their friends who had contributed to the gift. A nice touch that allowed everyone to see and become part of their really special commission.

We wish Kate & Tom every happiness together. To find out more about how to commission a painting, click here
